Meryem in the Spotlight

'Light on foot, calm in pose, loving in nature,'

..these are the words we would use to describe Meryem.

Meryem began at Go Yoga by simply stepping onto the mat with us, it wasn't long before she realised even though she had some PT training, that she wanted to learn more about yoga and to teach. She enrolled on our training programme many moons ago now and has become one of our amazing teachers, both in studio and on our training programmes.

We asked Mery a few questions....

What's your quote of the week?

“The illiterate of the twenty-first century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

• Alvin Toffler

What do you love about yoga?

I love how it settles my busy brain and brings me back to the now, releases the tention in my body and gives me a clearer perspective. It helps me be a better version.

What's your favourite pose?

My favourite pose is the supine spinal twist. It gives me a good oblique and glute stretch and it's very calming after a good yoga session.

What do you spend most of your days doing at the moment?

At the moment I am interior designing my home. We as a society spend most of our time at home, more now than ever and it's really helping me shift my attention to the things that really make me happy and that is a happy, healthy and calm radiating home that me and my loved ones can enjoy.

What's your favourite season?

In reality my favourite season is spring, I love watching everything come alive including us humans, I am a believer that there is nothing a good sunshine can't fix. But in the UK the weather can change instanstly so summer has been very lovely the past few years.

What is the book you are reading now?

I am currently really into a book called ‘The universe has your back’ by Gabrielle Bernstein. The book is all about how to connect with the universe to manifest the things we desire. It talks about yoga, in particular kundalini and the ‘sa at na ma’ meditation technique and how that can be integrated into our manifestation. It's really really Intriguing and very up my street. A must-read for those fellow spiritual yogis.

How has yoga helped you?

This is a hard one to answer as it has helped me with many things. It was my gateway to the life a wish to peruse now. It began when I was at my darkest and it put me on a path to self-discovery and healing that I so deeply needed. It has been a long journey for me and yoga has been at the centre of each stage in my life, that is why I am forever grateful and loyal to yoga.
